Austin Eats

Hubby and I dropped the kids off at summer camp at the beginning of the month and took the opportunity to bum around Austin for a weekend.  It had been about 5 years since my last visit, which is pretty lame.  You see, I have no excuse not to visit more often since I have a sister there.  We hit a good cross section of cuisines, from Japanese to Vietnamese and Tex-Mex.  The stand outs included Uchiko, a few of the McGuire Moorman restaurants (including June’s voted by Food & Wine Magazine as one of the nation’s best restaurants of the year), and the ubiquitous breakfast taco spots.  Needless to say, after all that food, I needed to hike the Grand Canyon to get back into shape (see my previous post ).  Happy trails! xoM

Seafood platter at Perla’s.

Clam ceviche at Perla’s, a deliciously brilliant idea.

Uchiko oysters.

Sea bream at Uchiko, with shiso, Meyer lemon zest and olive oil.

The lovely Saint Cecilia hotel.

This room at the Hotel Saint Cecilia is where the Foo Fighters stayed while recording the album Saint Cecilia.

Can’t you just see them jamming around the fire at night?
